70d Shutter Count

Recommended Posts

I am the proud owner of a Canon 70d and have recently had some thoughts of its shutter count. I had always assumed that there would have been some software on the Canon disk. Not true. I have since done a bit of reading as to how to obtain a shutter count, but would like to hear if anyone has some thoughts on the subject. Obviously, being comparatively new, I know what the count is, but the in-camera count only goes up to 9,999, then reverts to zero. This in itself is annoying, as eventually you will end up with several images with the same number, or am I missing something?

Well, I can say it's true, as I have a Canon EOS 100D and that reverts back to zero after 9999, I know this as I've taken 20,500 images on mine. However, Canon's software for downloading from the camera does put them in folder by date. Whenever I post an image I always use a copy of the origona;, but renamed to whatever the subject is. I've yet to come across a time when I've taken the exact same subject using the numbering system
