35mm Film Question

Recommended Posts

Sorting through a drawer I came across a whole bunch of unused 35mm films:

5 x 36 Kodak Gold 200
2 x 36 Supasnaps 200
4 x 36 Kodacolor 200

I've no idea have long I've had them, a couple are possibly 10 years old, so my question is are they still useable..?? Couldn't see any expire dates on the rolls themselves though.

They'll be fine but will have lost a little 'speed' so decrease the ISO setting on the camera when you use them - also - the colours may be a bit weird as the various emulsion layers degrade at differing rates so you get colour shifts.

C41 film (thats what this is) has a fixed developing time/temp so just bung them through your local lab and see what you get. Most will scan the negs to a CD for a quid or so which makes them easier to share online.

What camera will you be using?

Canon EOS 300, though I'm going to swap the matching grey 28-90mm kit lens for the Canon EF 24-105mm f4L IS ISM. It'll be interesting to see if anything I learnt from taking just short of 20,000 inages on the digital camera in the last 18months when it comes down to just doing 36. I think in the 11 years I've had the film camera I've probably taken less than 1000, and all of those where on the Auto setting.....
