Tribute to The Few

Had a day out at the beach today and took my camera along for some family shots....

The beach in question was at Southbourne and what I didn't know was there was an air festival on a stones throw away in Bournemouth; and the pilots use Southbourne to line up on the display area. The rules regarding flying over crowds don't seem to apply as I found out as the Vulcan flew overhead and kicked sand in my face - unfortunately my camera was still in its bag at this point but was rapidly brought out. I got some good shots of it but a bit too far away once in the display area and the haze is a bit too much.

The undoubted stars of the show though marking the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was a fly past by a Spitfire and Hurricane... Still on patrol in the skies over the south coast

Not a lot of cropping on this shot and I was zoomed right out to squeeze these into shot - that's how close these aircraft pass over the beach...

...and with a bit of zoom you can get really up close and personal.

Also saw the Red Arrows so all in all a good day out at the beach

Well caught....I live on the approach into North Weald and have all of the classic aircraft that operate from there over my garden at 500 feet almost every day.

But am I ever ready with my camera...No! :)

Thanks Denis,

These chaps were a lot lower than 500ft - more like 100ft I reckon; certainly if anyone had been flying a kite or one of those drone things there might have been a problem.

I definitely wasn't ready with my camera at first. If anyone was taking video of the Vulcan coming in I'll be the one diving for my camera bag and franticly trying to open it, pulling my camera out, fumbling with the lens cap and switching on in one go then trying to take some shots on the previous totally inappropriate settings.
