No - not sure why it looks like this but it really is sitting in the cup. Maybe its my post processing. I added a B&W conversion to the cup and reflection as they had a bit of a yellowish tint I didn't much care for. You are right about them being boiled (only in case they toppled to avoid mess and waste as we ate them afterwards) but are wrong about the skewer - good try though!

Any more ideas?

Ok ... have you used photoshop at all to tell the lie ie... to clone out something holding them in place ...ie  see through tube or vase? ;) Or  have you been taking magic lessons from Illusionist  Davis Copperfield ?

Clicker has been the nearest so far with velcro.....

I boiled and cooled the eggs then set up my table/backdrop. 2 x ikea shiny black tables one as the table for the eggs to rest on and one for the backdrop with the legs removed. I then placed egg 1 in the egg cup. The other eggs had double sided sticky tape on them and I stacked the whole lot at an impossible balance, leaning against the backdrop, whilst sticking it to the backdrop.

I then made the background purely black thus removing any reflections and making the eggs stand out.

Adjusted the egg cup/reflection to B&W to remove the tint and that was it!

Easy really once you know how!
