This hairy dragonfly won't survive long. I suspect it's wings dried in the wind before they could be fully opened, so it couldn't fly and will be easy prey for a predator.

Yes, I've still got it. He was quite happy to sit on my finger and didn't even try to fly away (then he crawled back into the undergrowth when I put my hand down)

Cracking images Bugs! That's a species I don't think I've ever seen let alone photographed, I've not seen any Dragonflies yet, you always seem to post images before I've seen any.  I posted a shot of a Golden-ringed Dragonfly last summer which I think you said you have never seen... am I correct?

Quite correct John, that is one I still haven't seen :(

I've only seen them in one place but on several occasions, that was a small stream in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire last August. I will go there again this summer.

Nature can seem heartless sometimes...  well spotted though especially as he wasn't even able to fly. How did it draw your attention then John ?

I saw him because he was a different colour to the grass stems he was hiding in. (I'm lucky to have very good peripheral vision and often see small diffeences in tone or shape that are not right in front of me)
