At the Jetski Lake

Just a few from the Jetski Lake on Sunday, no helmets chopped off.

I will be going back to the Jetski Lake on Sunday 17th May for Round 2 of the JSRA Championships, which also incorporates a freestyle event, so lots of riders doing tricks. Any suggestions for what I might do differently - close/wider...

Thanks Chris and JHF. I've been looking at other images of jetski's, a lot seemed to be done when the ski is cornering, so you get lots of spray. Here's one that is a crop (around 50%) that seems to be of a style that's popular. (Obviously is it's abit too dark and contrasty, with lots of blown highlights, but it is does seem to follow Chris's 3/4 view. I have to say I think it's a pretty challenging subject to photograph, you've got fast moving craft on water with all the associated reflections and highlights and contrasts - particularly on a sunny day.

The sun hasn't helped you any so if possible move into a better position with the sun behind or at least to one side - are you shooting in raw and are you attempting to recover highlights and reduce the shadows before converting to jpegs?

Excellent shot! That's the 'money picture' in my book (don't worry too much about a few blown highlights in a shot like this - you're thinking too technically : the reaction of people who see it is going to be similar to mine, i.e. "wow!")

Thanks Colin and Chris. On this instance I shot in jpeg and in the last shot I didn't do any processing to try and recover any details in the darkened area. I did have a quick try this morning, so I know that some can be pulled back. I'll probably go again before the race weekend and walk around and see if there are any better positions.
