  1. I'd like to, it's only one train from here. I'll see how January and February go before I decide for definite.
  2. They're Hong Kong Chinese, though one (the presenter) is British. Their 'style' gets annoying after a while!
  3. I seem to remember that "views" are public domain, unless covered by a specific law. Eg, if you stood outside Alermaston, when you look through the fence you are seeing a 'view' covered by the official secrets act. But if you stood in your street and took a pic, it's public domain.
  4. Absolutely. You can open a shop on any street, but if nobody knows you're there... 90 percent of my week is spent promoting my online shop and driving traffic to it. It's a long hard slog but slowly it's starting to happen. I know of people that make a reasonable income from the 'micro stock' agencies, but their portfolios run to tens of thousands of images. They only make a quid or two per images, but sell a few hundred a week worldwide. It's a full-time job for them taking the kinds of pics they think will be saleable.
  5. It upsets me that they breathe our air.
  6. Micro fibre lens cloths. Washable so last for years. Good ones are/were made by Calotherm and usually available in opticians, but rarely camera shops. The microfibres kind of soak up grease and grime. Don't use lens tissues, they're the lens equivalent of sandpaper. ...or there's always the dishwasher
  7. I like this guy alot. I've sat through some truly bloody awful 'how to' Youtube vids, but this guy strikes the right balance between explaining and just waffling.
  8. Planned obsolescence combined with a "get out of jail free" card for the manufacturer, I'm afraid. [Old Fart mode = on] In my day, cameras were delicate high-precision scientific instruments. In your day, they are consumer electronics. It's how it is, like it or not [Old Fart mode = off]
  9. It's really rather nice. Set me back £67 for the body, charger and two batteries. Given the low shutter count, I considered it a bargain. Good to hear there are other adaptors available, music to my budget-conscious ears
  10. The imaging area of a m4/3 sensor is 17.3 x 13mm, the image area of 110 film is 17.0 x 13mm
  11. Yes. The m4/3 sensor is almost identical size to 110 film so it's a perfect little combination. I had an adaptor made about 18 months ago with an adjustable aperture (the original Pentax 110 had the aperture built into the camera body) and it works lovely. I'll dig some sample pics out later.
  12. Ugly often means brilliant. I stand before you as evidence. Yes. Off to the naughty step with you. Don't come back until you have some taste
  13. I always hankered after a Canon Epoca. Looked like a bit of drainpipe.
  14. That Konica looks less ugly and more "I'm really very cross indeed!"
  15. Sorted. Picked up a G1 body with under 6,000 shots under it's belt. I can now dig out the little Pentax 110 lenses and m4/3 adaptor and start enjoying myself properly again. Feels like a long time ago I enjoyed them funny little lenses
  16. Nooooooooooooooo..... that's my favourite camera in the world! At least the Kiev isn't ugly through failed attempts at beauty :-)
  17. I lost one of my plums thanks to the swift no-nonsense approach of my GP and the super-quick referral to the hossy. It really is a lottery, but if you win you win big. Losing doesn't bare thinking about Fortunately I'm at the age where the best contraceptive is my own nudity, so being a bit lop-sided hasn't affected me at all ...and my bicycle saddle is fifty percent less uncomfortable
  18. I'd pity the fool that paid an extra $6,500 to buy a Sony NEX with a H on it more than I'd pity the ugly camera
  19. It's all just become a whole heap easier (and potentially cheaper). I've discovered, after some prompting by a cinematography nut who live a few doors up, that my Sony phone does superb 720p video - actually much better than my 400 quid Panasonic managed that I had to sell. Even better is that it will take an external mic via a four quid adaptor cable obtainable on Fleabay. All my vids are done at my bench in the garage, so the wide angle and splendid close-focus on it are just about perfect. Now I can look for a larger sensor camera and it doesn't matter about the video, which opens up my world enormously.
