  1. Hi Dougie, a warm welcome from sunny Morecambe!
  2. Hi Joseph and welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing some of your work. Don't worry about your English; it's probably better than many of the folks on here anyway!

    Compliment?

The way I see it there are two ways to deal with this; 1. spit your dummy out and sue the pants off him (none productive but may make you feel better) 2. Thank him for using your photo, send him a business card and ask him to credit you since you are now a semi pro (may get more work and a few contacts)
  4. A friend of mine has obtained a box Brownie in excellent condition. She has modified film spools so it can be used with the film that is available and has just got her first prints back. Some of them show signs of obvious camera shake, so she would like to use a tripod. I've suggested a flat piece of plywood 4" square mounted on a removable tripod plate with rubber bands holding the camera to the wooden platform. Has anyone else done anything like this before or got any better ideas? A milking stool comes to mind!
  5. I've just made a post then clicked on the "Home" button and got this message Warning: require_once(/home/www/tipf.co.uk/forums/admin/applications_addon/other/shoutbox/app_class_shoutbox.php): failed to open stream: Input/output error in/home/www/tipf.co.uk/forums/hooks/shoutboxGlobalShoutbox_070b3c26339595ac5d4489a33969cd38.php on line 93 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '/home/www/tipf.co.uk/forums/admin/applications_addon/other/shoutbox/app_class_shoutbox.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5.4/lib/php:/home/www/tipf.co.uk/forums/ips_kernel/') in /home/www/tipf.co.uk/forums/hooks/shoutboxGlobalShoutbox_070b3c26339595ac5d4489a33969cd38.php on line 93
  6. Good to hear from you again Dee; glad things are going your way again!
  7. I've never had problems with scam emails since I consolidated all my bank accounts, saving schemes, share portfolos, pension fund and my wages into one, easy to use Nigerian bank account that was set up free by some lovely helpful people.
  8. Hi Sheryl, greetings from Morecambe!

    Congratulations Geoff, good choice Kate!
  10. Was that Korky making an escape bid?
  11. Thank you all! Was treated to a full English before a trip to Shap Abbey to take a few snaps. Called in at a craft shop to pick up a piece of foam core board big enough to mount a 30" poster of my POTW winning Howgill Fells shot. The kids and grandkids visited this evening bearing gifts. Watched the recordings of yesterdays MotoGP whilst tucking in to a chicken vindaloo and a few beers. It's a good day!
  12. Sunsets can be very difficult because you are usually shooting directly into the sun. This means that there will be very bright areas and very dark shadow areas; cameras do not cope with this extreme very well. My trick is to choose an exposure that captures the brightest part of the scene without over exposing it (the histogram is very useful for this). This results in a picture with very dark, even silhouette areas. I then use software (I use Adobe Lightroom) to lift the shadows and reveal the detail in the picture. This is only one way of getting a shot, I'm sure others will jump in and make other suggestions.
  13. Hi Sam, welcome to the forum. Really like the trawler pic, good composition and an interesting subject. What camera you use doesn't make a big difference to a good picture, you can use a mobile phone if you like; what matters is using your eyes to see the world and make pictures in your mind that you then capture. One famous photographer (think it may have been Ansell Adams) said, great photographs are made, not taken.

Congratulations Korky! This project you're on would look great as a coffee table book, the pictures are tops!
  15. Hi Cathy, welcome to the forum. I was a beginner when I joined up, there's lots of good advice to be had here. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
  16. Congratulations Bugs!
  17. Hi Caz, welcome to the madhouse!
  18. Congratulations to the pair of you; a gold medal is well and truly deserved I'm sure!
  19. Hi Geoff, welcome to our little world! Love the pic, looking forward to seeing more and learning about your processing technique.
  20. WOW! Thank you all for your kind comments and thank you Annie for choosing my picture! This was my very first outing with a walking group I've joined. I was worried that the nice weather wouldn't last when I saw the black clouds rolling in, so I took this shot even though I knew there were better viewpoints further along the path. As it turned out, I think this was one of the better shots because of the dappled light. Thanks again all; now, where's that bottle of single malt I was saving!
