Congratulations Paul, a deceptively simple image!
  3. The female singer is Eliza Carthy from the Carthy/Waterson dynasty.
  4. Hi Dave, a warm welcome from up the road in Morecambe!
  5. Hi Matt, welcome from over the border in Lancs! I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Congratulations on POTW Longman, excellent image!
  7. This winter I really need to change the metal brake lines on the van. I'm currently learning three new clog dances for the display team and there are a few tunes I need to work out for the 5 string banjo. Photographically, I'm gonna have a go at Darren's hand challenge, a few still life pics and a creative selfie.
  8. Thank you BP for choosing my pic and thank you all for the kind comments. This has brought joy into an otherwise weary and tiring Monday. I think I said in the original post that I feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. All I have to do is turn up with a camera and watch the clouds playing with the light and shadow on the contours of the land.

    Congratulations Paul, great shot!
  10. As it turned out, the camera stayed in the rucksack. Here's one taken on my mobile; it's the view of Red Tarn taken from Swirral Edge going up to Helvellyn, the ridge you can see in the distance is Striding Edge which is our route back down again. ....and one from someone else's phone taken on the summit just to prove I was there!
  11. Thanks for the input guys! Will see what happens today; there is an amber weather warning so may not get chance for any pics.
  12. I'm going on a long walk tomorrow and I'm planning how I'm going to shoot. I'm thinking of taking the 35mm f1.8 with my Nikon D5100 instead of the 18-105 zoom in order to keep the weight and size down. I'm thinking I'll be taking a few pano shots to get the landscape in. The received wisdom seems to be that for panoramic shots you should use manual mode in order to maintain a consistent exposure through the shots; but when I think about it, wouldn't using the AF/AE lock button have the same effect if I stayed in aperture priority mode? Would love to hear what you think; have I overlooked something? Forgot to mention; I will not be using a tripod, all shots will be hand held!
  13. .....to tax my van. I took the reminder with me along with the MOT and insurance certificates even though the form didn't ask for them (old habits die hard). I paid the fee, got a receipt and walked out. I'm gonna have a real smug feeling driving to work tomorrow, with an out of date tax disc in the screen and knowing I can't be touched for it! Hee hee, am I a rebel or what!

Congratulations Kev, a well deserved winner that would have been my personal choice too!
  15. Some great ideas for the phone camera. Loved the underwater case! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTz4Nhgm_SQ&index=1&list=UUn5C6P1rxY6PEU6xUKapbCQ
  16. Like you say Fuji, some great photographs there. Thankfully she does speed up a bit towards the end and gets through plenty of pictures. Personally, I like those low key jazz pics she started with!

    Hi

    Hi Chassy, welcome!
  18. By the way James, I hope the cat in you avatar only has three legs; four legged cats do not make good tripods!
  19. Hi James, welcome to the forum. Like Chris above, I already said hi in your first shot post. I wrongly assumed you were a beginner, you have some cracking stuff on your Flickr pages; I'm following you now!
  20. Congratulations both! I thought it looked like Preston myself, but it's been so long since I wandered into the middle of town!
  21. Here's what I did. I grabbed a piece of firewood hand crafted a wooden platform and screwed it onto a spare flash bracket. The wheel with the tripod mount hole was screwed into an adapter for no other reason than to make it tight. The assembly fits on top of the tripod and the camera is held onto the wooden platform by rubber bands. MkII will be the same piece of wood with a Manfrotto quick release plate screwed to the underside. My friend is very happy with this arrangement and is currently using the Box Brownie alongside her digital gear.
  22. Hi Kev, welcome to TIPF from over the border in Lancashire. I started here as a beginner just over a year ago, I've had nothing but mostly good advice and encouragement! ;-)
