WTG paul, that's one heck of a detailed macro. Excellent choice for PotW
  2. Interesting That may be on my radar for next weekend. I do agree with the £16 being a bit steep, but if you only want a platform ticket, it looks to be only £4. Reading the item again it sounds as if the £16 is for access to the train and stalls etc.
  3. Sounds like a fun day I'm off to the first local 40s day around here, so hopefully I'll be people watching as well
  4. Glad to hear you're getting more mobile Garden birds may not be exotic to us but they may be to others and they are good practice subjects
  5. I currently use a Canon 580EXii for most of my non-macro work with a 430EX as slave if appropriate. The 580 also does multiflash although I seldom use it unless I'm trying to demonstrate it's use at the camera club (e.g. catching water drops) For Macro I use a Canon MR14 ring flash, normally with unbalanced tubes (one brighter than the other)

Well done Fuzzy, an excellent set to choose from
  7. Glad to hear it went well.
  8. I prefer "Cut Off" of the tracks there. My taste is somewhat wide-ranging and in the right situation that could go down rather well.

Well done David, good choice Heather
  10. I know it's a few weeks off but how about one day in the Mayday weekend. (May 3/4/5)
  11. Sounds like fun, I'm in if I don't have to work

    POTW w/e 6/4/14

    Well done Martyn
  13. From London bridge today, in the murky smog. The BT tower is normally quite clearly visible from this point, but here it's looking as if it's shrouded in fog
  14. Well done Barbara, a beautiful picture, and well chosen Chris
  15. There's also some stunning scenery, beautiful wildlife and some very friendly people as well
  16. Hope it stays away, Annie. Search 'helpers' are one of the most annoying things I find on work computers slowing everything down, they are often 'side-loaded' along with other programs that you actually do want or need. Recent typical examples are Google Chrome being installed along with a flashplayer update and the 'ask toolbar' being installed with java update.. Never just accept the default installation settings, check them to make sure there are no added extras. Also make sure your antivirus is up to date and run a full scan just to be sure nothing else has been put on at the same time.
  17. Well done Leon and a good choice Annie

Well done Fuzzy a cracker of a shot
  19. It does depend what critters you are trying to get but in most cases the main requirement is either luck or knowledge of where and when they are likely to be Things like butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies you can often (sometimes) get them to land on your hand or walk onto your hand if you place your hand correctly and slowly (Annie has the evidence of that in action). A tripod is normally useless for these since they won't put up with you moving a lump of metal around near them. Use a 'pod at a longer range with a zoom lens instead of a macro lens and you can get good results, though. For other insects that are slower moving a tripod or monopod is handy
  20. 'below the line' is your signature that you change by going to the little arrow beside your name right at the top of the screen, then click on 'settings' and look for ''signature' down the left hand side. I'm not sure if you need a certain number of posts before you can start changing it, some things you need 30 posts, others you don't
  21. Greetings and welcome to the forum
  22. Just realised that's where I met Annie last year, and it was thanks to her I joined this forum, so you can blame her
