  1. Fascinating bit of movie trivia: HAL 9000 from the Stanley Kubrick film 2001 was actually a Nikon 8mm f2.8 http://www.popphoto.com/gear/2013/02/hal-9000-was-built-around-nikon-8mm-lens
  2. I'm in two minds about this - half of me thinks it could be a bit pointless but half thinks it could just be the best 'gadget' to come out in recent years and be a total hoot to own.
  3. Hoo Dood! Welcome aboard.

Well then, what a week. Had great fun catching up with all the posts and images and it was a hard choosing but in the end there has to be a winner. I had a choice of two shots by the same member and I've had a half hour of indecision trying to decide which to pick - in the end I went with the one that I would be the happiest with. Bill's Crunching the Data is stunning, it is I love about photography. Its a photograph spotted in everyday life, the lighting is fantastic, the processing is perfect and the subject connects with the viewer as soon as you see the picture. Brilliant. There is a colour version in the original thread and while it is a good photograph the mono one is a great photograph. Have a look at both though..... Original Thread:
  5. Hard to believe the auld bird is 80: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iM48qNM8xI
  6. There we are old bean: You can search Dismuke on any Internet radio/player. I use RadioBOX on the iPhone (unlimited 3G data is awesome) and a Squeezebox with the Hi-Fi at home. Update. Weblink: http://www.loudcity.com/station-m.asp?id=183
  7. I have a thing about poor website designs. I get that he's going for a minimal look (its probably cool or something) but its irritating and I lost interest in clicking very quickly. I found a Google search much more enjoyable so thanks for the heads up.
  8. Ok then, I'll rephrase my question. Who cares? This started as a 'I like' and have a look here thread now its a witch hunt. No one cares - there I've answered myself within one post.
  9. Lasted 30 seconds on his website then got annoyed - Google is best and yes he's created some spectacular images.
  10. Well I tried but will have to wait until I'm on the home computer. He might be well known but he needs to update his website.
  11. Oddly Bill I have a manual focus lens on the front of my Nikon at the moment - think I may keep it there to brush up the old skills.
  12. I have read through Fuji's post several times now and at no point does he demand that everyone should like this style of photography because he says so. At no point is he aggressive nor does he resort to name calling. Put simply - he has discovered a photographer that he likes, has given a little background as to why without the need to say others should believe the same and has posted a link for people to follow if they want so they can look and make their own minds up. I don't think replies that are bordering on being rude add anything to the thread.
  13. Saw a documentary about her last year, fascinating storey and you're right - an amazing photography.

    Beware!

Got a call at the Metrocentre just before I left telling me all about the fantastic offers available on cavity wall and loft insulation. Took them about five minutes before they actually asked if we had a loft or cavity walls, until then I played along - such fun.

    Beware!

Had a couple of these - best fun I've had in ages. Seriously, play along, be deliberately awkward, act dumb, tell you have lots of computers with every flavour of Windows, refuse to be drawn into telling them which you use first....then.....then....tell them that actually you use a Mac.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Instant end to the call. One of the most entertaining five minute phone calls I've had.

    Crackin' image - well done.
  17. She's awesome - check her out on Buzzcocks.
  18. The chairman of HMV just happens to be the old chairman of jessops - odd that.
  19. High key Lighting is an exposure/lighting technique and really has nothing to do with Photoshop or similar software. Yes you can muck about with an image to create the look but it should be done with either lighting in a studio or exposure in the camera.
  20. One of two stores may have made posters that read "The staff of Jessops would like to thank all their customers who shopped at Amazon - Killing the highstreet 1% of TAX at a time" and stuck that in the window on their last day. There was others but they're not for a family friendly site.
  21. Thats a fun shot - well done.
