    PALOMA FAITH

Until after I watched Room 101 on BBC TV last night I had never heard of The singer Paloma Faith.....at first she seemed to be shallow, and not very watchable, but as the show went on I got to quite like her style. I have just listened to her on YouTube, liked what I heard and for the first time in my life paid for, then downloaded one of her Albums. By one else like her?........Just curious. FUJI
  3. By doing a very quick Internet search Lee.....I am 99% sure it is a....Fieldfare........just put that into a google images search. FUJI
  4. Thanks Dave.......I don't intend to do it......I just posted the info for interest.....I have dedicated Macro gear, but no bugs currently ;-) FUJI
  5. Hi, Kobione, I can add my pennorth here I think? Whilst I have not much idea of adding a texture as a background as seen in recent posts by Colin and Lee I do know about increasing existing texture and detail in selected parts of an image to increase depth, and interest for the viewer. High key usually refers to those Mono Photographs that up the whites to almost maximum whilst at the same time retaining enough selected detail to form a pleasing result......see my recent Snow Posts. Selective sharpening brushed onto layers will increase texture in selected areas as will using software such as TOPAZ filters. It makes for interesting photography in the dark days of winter. FUJI
  6. If you have the slightest interest in Macro Photography and stacking in particular this should be of great interest? http://mortenaagaard.com/focus-stacking-a-beginners-guide/ His web site is amazing too. FUJI

    POTW w/e 20/1/13

Thank you all for your lovely comments.......and especially to Kate for choosing my own personal favourite shot of the week. I couldn't have done it without the considerable co- operation of my subject......there he was, in a snowstorm, pushing a babe in a puschair .....when an out of breath oldie bloke with a camera asks him to stop to have his portrait taken.......He was so pleasant about it. I really hope that he emails for a copy......if not, I will print a hard copy and take it into town every day until I see him again......I am certain he is a local and our town centre is very compact compared to some. Thanks again, all .....you have made my week. FUJI
  8. Just pinched off the specialist macro forum....... QUOTE Took some recent suggestions about removing the front element from a kit Canon 35-80 zoom lens, version III in this case, $30 on e-bay, which converts it into a manual focus only macro zoom, with a range of about .7x to 1.4x, but with full electronic functions. I cut off the front element from its holder, and re-attached the holder so that lens cap and macro ring mount can still be used. Very light weight and easy to use, with a WD of about 3-4 cm. Even at f/8, looks very good with little to no CA. Next time I'll keep my macro flash handy . QUOTE ENDS Worth trying? FUJI
  9. Hi! kobione, My good lady and I being of mature years, have been well prepared for weeks and even more since we had the very clear warnings of what was to come. One ton of dry logs in the back yard, ample food stocks in the pantry, boiler professionally checked and cleaned, good winter clothes and shoes on the hooks. When we venture out is is mainly to prevent us going stir crazy, we take extra care to walk in the least slippery areas......it's good to know we have three grown up children who keep a close eye on what we are up to, so help is at hand if we do require it. We don't have a vehicle now, but when I did, it was ( for over 20 years) a 1973 VW Camper, it would start up in any weather, and usually got me home or made a temporary home wherever I was. I did lots of winter toy making demonstrations and sales at country museums and on Historic Sites ( sometimes in Tudor Costume) so the camper was always prepared with fuel, food, bedding and suitable clothing. I admit to preferring bitter winter weather to summer heat.....give me a steady moderate temperature any day. FUJI
