  3. Without her we wouldn't know what life was like in her areas of New York, the fashions, the transport, the streets, and life in general, thank goodness there are folk like her who have the vision to record precious moments in time, even though a number may have been posed The lass didn't want to become famous, but it is very obvious that she gained much pleasure from recording what she saw around her, even more admirable when you think how much she must have spent on film and processing from her ...Nanny....wages Just think too, that she had to wait days to see the results of her efforts.......her story, is similar to many other artists and visionaries who weren't discovered until after their demise........I would rather wander with a camera, than just.....wander, wondering ;-) One thing for sure, not many of my prints will be found in boxes.....but I have thousands of photographs on PC drives.....in my will I advise my family to go through them with care, because, they and I know I record life in my small town on an almost daily basis. Love life and smell the coffee, is my motto. FUJI

  5. Thanks BP......I was expecting that link to open ;-) When you think about it....we still enjoy classical and folk music from centuries ago....why?....because it strikes a chord in us, especially as nowadays it is recorded, then played on the finest equipment........popular music is like photography, transitional, and every search through very old photographs brings up a few very real gems, amongst the mediocre and dross. Tune in to ....RADIO DISMUKE.......give it time......adjust your acceptance levels.....listen....and....learn. This may help? http://youtu.be/zTQ1A7YT1pQ TOODLELOO! FUJI
  6. Hi, folks........As you all know I am the Methuselah of this happy forum, ancient as the hills but not down and out.....Yet! MUSIC? ......Not photography is my subject here....Why?...because I know that BP and Phil especially like to don the headphones for some head bashing or to listen to some fairly recent offering. Now, as for me, I feel very privileged because as a child of the 1930s my grandparents and their contemporaries were Victorians or Edwardians, all in at the birth of recorded music on wax cylinders....shellac records or discs then lasted until the late 1940s....almost every home had a wind up gramophone and a few precious records.............but...our greatest pleasure was to listen to the Wireless ( RADIO) the sound quality wasn't as good as we are currently used to nor was it in stereo but as good as it got. I will never forget listening to the first stereo LPs and 45s played on huge Stereograms and the early Wurlitzer Juke Boxes it was a revelation .....FUJI was in at the birth of Rock-n-Roll and Hi-fi.....ever since then I have had an extremely eclectic taste in music, there is very little that I don't like. Over the years I have dabbled in Hi-Fi right through to my iPad and my amazing Mini-X speakers......Can I make a plea then? I realised the other day that most of you have never listened to anything popular that doesn't have a drum or drums taking the lead or singers using no digital enhancement. Recently I discovered... Radio Dismuke...on Internet radio, it plays no stop music recorded during the 1920s 30s and 40s......when instrumental skills were tops but recording methods restricted by the technology of the day.....but this amazing radio station plays digitally remastered music from amazing Trad Jazz to the quirky syncopated rhythms of those times.....Please go there.....like me, you will hate some of the singing, but will be totally bowled over by the sheer skill and enthusiasm of the musicians and music not spoilt by an intruding monotonous beat. So, pour yourself a large glass of something, put your feet up, tune in to Radio Dismuke, close your eyes and your biased thoughts on what music should be......then just listen, don't give up, just give time fir your ears to adjust to that distinctive sound....I find it easy, but you will need time.....ENJOY! Come, on.....I listen to your bang up to date stuff and like quite a lot of it.....there was music before the drums took over......Have a listen then let me have feedback. Just like photography, music has history. Educating FUJI

  10. I think that this is a truly magical example of her best work........a superb Street Shot incorporating a Self Portrat........Brilliant? http://www.vivianmaier.com/portfolios/self-portraits/?pid=281 FUJI
  11. I knew nothing of Photographer Vivian Maier until I received a heads-up about her after posting on another forum..............I think it was TIPF member geodar who posted a set of shots taken of historic streets with figures?......... All except one seemed to fall between being accurate and attractive records of the old buildings, the cobbles and passers by and Street Photography....... one stood out as a bit of what is known as ...Street Photography.....The Man with the Carrier Bag, in which the figure adds an extra dimension to the whole.. Having a very quick look at the wonderful portfolios of Vivian, which point out the difference between a photographic recording of a Street and....the Art of Street Photography; one of the aim of which is to capture life's little happenings, with no posing or preconceived plans. You all know that I have had a dabble in the Genre and found that it isn't as easy as it might seem, the photographer needs to not only be confident with the camera but must be able to merge by not drawing attention to himself, that means no tripod, flash or long lens. Many of the old time Street photographers used beautiful little Leica's or other Range-Finder Cameras; forcing them to get close tho their human subjects. A Photographer/Artists-Eye needs to be developed so that potential shots, perspective and composition can be worked out very quickly without thinking, all, whilst having the camera and lens set to achieve best results....there can be ...Happy Accidents amongst the hundreds of failed shots...Happily amongst all the frames from a days Shoot can be a few very real Gems. There are a few Street Photography formulae to be absorbed; there are excellent Tutorials on YouTube plus many examples of...Good Practice...on sites featuring photographers like Vivian: Please see here: http://www.vivianmaier.com/about-vivian-maier/ ENJOY! Beware!

We tend to ignore all International calls, unless we know a friend or relative is on holiday and might just need help......We can't ignore .....Unavailable ...flagged calls because some come from doctors, hospitals and care workers etc........ But......if I do answer a call I don't want to bother with I carefully place the receiver by the TV speaker......they soon hang up. FUJI

    PALOMA FAITH

Until after I watched Room 101 on BBC TV last night I had never heard of The singer Paloma Faith.....at first she seemed to be shallow, and not very watchable, but as the show went on I got to quite like her style. I have just listened to her on YouTube, liked what I heard and for the first time in my life paid for, then downloaded one of her Albums. By one else like her?........Just curious. FUJI
