  1. Until I dig out some more representative photos, my old school web site has lots of my photos on it from my time there. The link below has several. The camera was an Exakta Varex IIB, the lens would have been probably a 135mm Palinar (effectively a shop own brand) or a 400mm Telemegor. Film I could look up, but given this was sports, most likely HP3 (not a typo - this is the 1960s after all - probably 1966). https://www.hemsworthgs1921.org/staff-hockey-match.html
  2. Yes, I'll dig some out. The Exakta was a trailblazer - first 35mm SLR, first lever wind, cassette to cassette take up possible with a built in cutting knife for short lengths. Shutter speeds 1/1000 to 12 seconds, with self timer working on all speeds down to 6 seconds. All in 1936. Post war, the previously fixed waist level finder became interchangeable, with a magnifying finder, pentaprism or stereo finder possible - a device was available with the latter to enable stereo pairs to be taken. Interchangeable focusing screens naturally. Very uncommon, but a metering prism appeared near the final end of production in the late 60s.
  3. I spent years using an Exakta Varex. Exaktas were left handed cameras (shutter and wind on use the left hand). I still have a number of Exaktas - lovely cameras.
  4. I'm about to go to the Photography Show in the morning, staying overnight. When we get back, I'll look out some photos of the interior in my day.
  5. Thanks for posting this. The Sainsbury Centre is after my time at UEA (graduated 1970) but the ziggarat residences in the background of the 6th photo was my home in my 2nd and 3rd years. When you return and pass C block, that was where I lived.
  6. Then that presumably makes film users the fastest growing market segment here? I got the (superficial, I know) impression from looking around last night that you use mainly medium format? I have an Ensign Selfix 6x9 folder that fits in my jacket pocket, as well as slightly more modern cameras (ETRS, RZ67, RB67, C330f).
  7. Welcome to The Independent Photography Forum. Please feel free to browse around and get to know the others. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  8. I just found this forum, and I'll admit that what attracted me on a first look round was that there seem to be film users here. As someone who finds film a better medium to use, that instantly gives the forum a plus point. My first photograph was taken with a borrowed box camera, c1955. My first camera used 828 film, was made of plastic and came from that purveyor if superior photographic equipment, Woolworths. 828 film is roll film, same width as 35mm film, but not sprockets. I moved up to a 6x9 box camera, then a 6x6 box camera through to 35mm. Eventually, 6x7 in the shape of a Mamiya RB67 came along. In due course, I found it on the heavy side for architecture, so moved to 5x4 to save weight. Seriously... One thing leads to another, and I then made the move from miniature format (5x4) to medium format 5x7. I now also have a couple of 10x8 cameras as well. I also enjoy reading: photographic chemistry, photography, optics, quantum mechanics, ancient and medieval history, reformed theology. I actually read theology at university, but as I was on a chemistry degree course, I came away with a BSc in chemistry. I've kept up with my favourite school subject, which was Latin, and am attempting to improve my knowledge of the same, along with Classical Greek which I had to teach myself. I also have some German books nearby, German being another school subject I enjoyed. On a more biographical note, I'm an expat Yorkshireman living in Sussex. Some of my photos can be found on my web site batey.photography
