I have travelled through Monmouth on a number of occasions as I have some friends at Redbrook, but I have never stopped to take photographs. It seems I have missed out. Next time I'm down I'll take my camera with me.

Very nice images Craig, I had two Red Kites and a Buzzard circling over my bungalow a couple of days ago, I do get the odd Buzzard overhead but I've only ever seen a Red Kite once before. Like you I have been forced to take a long break from the forum due to my wife being so ill, sadly she died on Wednesday evening. I have not used my cameras for over a year, I will have to learn to take photos again as I have pretty much forgot how to use my cameras.
My sincerest condolences on your loss, John.
Speaking from experience, the rawness you feel now will fade in time, trite but true. My thoughts go out to you. -

This is a beautiful image. Love the pastel rendering. What program did you use to do that?
Fotosketcher and Photoshop, Cheryl.

I bought a Camera Shoulder Strap that connects to the tripod fitting which also allows you to also use the normal neck strap at the same time. I bought it for when I use the Canon 28-300mm L lens
Ditto.

Lovely colouring. You've caught them well.

A tip for you. If you have images that deteriorate when you reduce them for the web, simply take a screenshot of the full image and post that.
I use Fastone capture - you can take a screenshot without the cursor. Try it and see how you get on.- 2

Really nice shots Craig ..... beautiful raptors ... I love to see them and they are reaching this part of Worcestershire now too ... maybe half a dozen sightings this past year above my garden though they are common on a daily basis on the Marches and Shropshire Hills where my sister lives....
And with a westerlly wind, that's two minutes flying time from one of the feeding stations in Wales.

Oh James .... I wondered where you had gone ... Seems you take to hibernating in the winter months ... hope all is well though ...
Great to see the harbingers of Spring though... Good to see you too !
Ummm! Don't we all? Hibernate, that is. I can't wait for the warmer weather to arrive.
That image is just begging to be colour popped. -
I did read about that - and I agree - the culprit should be imprisoned.

Fabulous Fogey.... I see that a photo of that tree has won a competition this last week somewhere I saw on the internet ... It is well known isn't it ... I have a number of images of it too . Wales has some very special scenery doesn't it ....
It crtainly does, Polly. And that tree must hold the record of being the most photographed tree in the British Isles. It's just so photogenic.

My wife Pam.

John, I may be speaking out of turn here - if I am, please don't take offence.
During one of the many heart attacks I've survived, I suffered cardiac arrest and did, in fact, die.
How do I know that? Well, I left my body. I was hovering by the ceiling watching the medics frantically working on me to get the body rescucitated. I watched my body jerk on a number of occasions as they tried to shock me back to life.
Obviously, they succeeded. The point is, I have proved to myself that when I do eventually die, I will leave my body. Now logic tells me If I leave a place, then I am going to arrive at a different place - where that place is, I have no idea.
What I can say is that it's going to be an interesting journey. In my mind, I categorically believe that Pam has shucked off this burdensome overcoat that we call life and moved on to a better place, free of the pain she was in.
While I understand your grief, please take comfort from the knowledge she is in a happier state/place/destination than she was here.
