Thanks, Yes those old big Sigmas and the newer ones really do need good light and a bit of luck but my go to is EF 100-400mm mk11 with 1.4x mk111 extender that knocks the Big Sigms and Tamrons right out the park, but they should given the cost, My wife still uses the older mk1 100-400mm and that is a sharper faster lens than the superzooms but they do have benefits at airshows where the displays have been pushed too far away, but i dont go there, far to many people about for me

The sun go thru a cycle every 11 years this winter just gone was i understand the 10th year so the activity that causes the Aurora is very high at the moment peeking i believe this time next year and again i understand the downside of the 11th year is the most active, So it should be even more active for another year although you wont see much thru the summer. I use several apps to get information on when there is a possible chance but there has to be a lot of things line correctly for it to be able to be seen in Scotland never mind this far south. Last sunday the stats where the 5th highest recoreded but i was lucky cloud covered most the country. Last November 5th was also extremely with clear skies and Aurora was seen all the way down to St Ives in cornwall and i heard as far douth as the Dolomites in the Alps Ive been lucky ive seen it on camera in the city of Nottingham twice and seen it twice on the moors by eye although it showed as a grey mist on the 5th nov but just for a few seconds last sunday we saw actulayy saw the green by eye but mostly caught it camera. Im not too good with photoshoip so my skills at proccessing are not good so find it hard to bring it out in PP but it is easy with modern mobiles and quick as i understand they tend to present images with some sort of HDR programing so a quick play with the built in editer works wonders, infact we use the mobiles every few minutes to chech for aurora and if good then shoot with main camera. As for the car trail image that was pure luck we wasnt out for Aurora i had not had any notifications from my apps it wasnt untill i proccessed image then as an afterthought checked the sky and Bingo there was just a hint. Ive had 3 days togging in 5 days and had a very lucky time getting shots od Aurora and night trails have been on my hit list for years. So 2 good nught sessions and a great day at Lakenheath although light was poor, this last week So nice to be able to get out and about more now just need good news when i next see my Oncologists but feeling better so fingers crossed

Thank you this is only my 2nd real attempt the first yes i got it but so many user issues ive learnt from them this time although ive had some luck at home on mobiles a couple of times and last friday was out on motorway bridge doing car trails and caught aroroa with knowing till i check images in processing heres a shot of the unseen Aurora just above the clouds

Ive tried mirrorless R6 and R6mk2 and they are not as quick or accurate in the focusing as my old 1dx2 hence why i bought a second one The 1dx2 locks onto moving targets incredably fast and once locked on does not lose focus or tracking its literaly a point and shoot as long as its setup correctly when i shoot aviation on my old 7D2 i got 90% to 95% percent keepers same for bird in flite with 1dx2 i get 100% keepers only times i get out of focus its because ive done something wrong user error not seen a mirrorless provide similar results from my togging friends yet but ive not had any experience with R3 but thats pricey and now these pair i have will last me till i done
