Super  crisp captures ... Is  your Lumix FZ1000  the camera  you used  for these pics  ...The reviews were so impressive for this bridge   camera and I see the price has come down now  .... I am sorely tempted .....have been for the past few months. I presume you are happy with it ....

The FZ 1000 is even better than expected I wish I had made the change from DSLR sooner......:)

I haven't heard a bad word said about it really JHFoto.... and as I have an anniversary looming on the horizon this weekend ... I  think I'll help the other  half  out by making a suggestion about   what might be a suitable  offering .... :hope:

Always remember it has a 25-400mm Leica lens which as I did for the images above extend to 800mm with no loss of quality as you can see. I know the FZ1000 is not not cheap but its worth every penny..................:)

The FZ1000 and the LX100 make an ideal pair. The latter you can carry with you always, though it doesn't have the long reach, while if you don't mind hefting the FZ1000 it's still much much less of a burden than an APS-C DSLR with a bunch of lenses.

Well I am very glad I took the plunge (as it were) to get rid of my Nikon DSLR gear and acquired my FZ 1000. It is incidentally exactly the same camera as the Leica V lux 4 for which you would pay £300 more..

...and would waste £300. The Leica D-Lux 9 is the same as the LX100 except re-badged, but all of them are made by Panasonic.

A big thank you for the feedback folks .. I appreciate it ... I was just going to buy the 55-400 lens for my Sony Alpha  as Judy seems to be pleased with that.. ( She's my test driver :scooter::smiling: )  and we have the same model.  Started digital life with a Sony bridge f717 with a superb Zeiss lens and  as I already had  a Minolta slr and lenses,  it seemed the right way to go when I wanted to add a DSLR to my collection. I still love it but carting around all the lenses gets to be a chore the  creakier my bones get..So ... I shall pop into John Lewis  tomorrow  and pick up a FZ1000   .... they usually price match don't they? How much does a spare battery cost ....... I can't remember if there is one included in the price but  one always needs a spare .. Sorry ...this has gone off topic from the original welcome hasn't it ... Hope  you'll bear with me ....don't really want to start a new thread on the technical board as I am about done here now .... thanks again Judy,  Chris and  JHFoto for the info ....anything  else  I need to know before  I go and get one tomorrow ..?.

Well I 've done it ... Spoke to a lady at JL  ...It's £619...with a free case from Panasonic and free 5 years guarantee parts and labour and 3 years accidental damage also . Can you use the same sd cards Judy ? I pick it up tomorrow ...

Stop Press -Attention

Unless JlL have changed their price, I'd go to Jessops or buy online.. JL were selling it for £100 more than the others and didn't seem to want to drop the price when I went in to Eldon Square branch :(

(Note - our joint friend from South Yorkshire advises me and I test drive and then Clicker does what I say :innocent: :innocent:   )

PS - I bought a spare battery when I bought the camera :)

... That is absolutely right .....  classic case of follow my leader :queen: ... when it comes to camera  choice ....

Spare battery ? Look on Ebay save some money but do check the sellers feedback...You have made a very wise choice good luck..... :)

Or haggle for a spare battery when you buy the camera. I'm sure they'd rather give you a battery than make no sale :)

I'm busy acquainting myself with the new camera JHFoto... phew .. lots to read on the manual on the cd ....As someone once said ..," I may be gone some time"  and all this because you posted  a stunning set of birds ...You have a lot to answer for  ;)

Seriously  though ... First impressions are great ... Haven't got my SD cards  ...they should be here by Monday ... by which time I may have found out how to use my iPhone as a remote control for it .. Got to find the App first ...doh

Hi JHFoto... The set of pics you posted on here are probably what confirmed my decision to buy... Can I ask if you used a tripod when taking them ? Have you tried the Panasonic app with your camera too ? The assistant in the store where I bought it has this camera and said that he sets it up in his garden and uses the app on his smart phone to zoom in and remotely take pics of birds feeding from inside his house. Now that sounds interesting....
