Black-headed Gull in flight.

Trying to get a result with this shot has been a right pain, there were two gulls out of focus on the water and part of a wing bottom left. I still can't say it's the result I was hoping for but it's the best I can do. I'm not particularly bothered though as I was just practicing birds in flight shots yesterday and learning from my many mistakes. The black head doesn't appear on these gulls until spring/summer and even then it is more dark brown than black.

it has an HDR look to it, did you use Photomatix?

Yes Chris but only a little because detail was lost in the underwings as the low sun was streaming onto the bird... you can see the shadow of the legs on the underside of the tail. I'm just experimenting with Photomatix.

I think I prefer the treatment of the original ... though with the crop/clone of your first post.

Chris... the original is a RAW image converted to jpg and downsized to 1024 pixels and that's all. I was just practicing birds in flight shots and hopefully I will eventually get shots that need far less messing about with... that's my plan anyway.
