During this very wet day, I have been having fun learning about adding a bit more drama into my Mono Processing......I have a few suitable subjects in my old files........here is another version of a character I posted a pic of over  two years ago.

I have been influenced by that amazing YouTube video containing a great song plus lots of grainy mono character studies.

I think that's really good. What are you using to process these images? It's encouraging me to try this sort of thing myself.

Hi, Rick,

Thank you.

I use Photoshop CS6 to convert, then adjust, tones, contrast, exposure and curves selectively on layers to lay down a good under painting ( if you like) ........ Then, to get the finishing touches I use one or more Topaz Filters, after which I might increase the sharpness using the High Pass Filter. All done at chosen Opacities and Flow on layers using a soft brush.

Should you not have Photoshop or Topaz, then good Free Photo processing software, such as GIMP, should have a variety of ART Filters that you can apply at chosen Opacities, on layers using brushes.

You obviously need a portrait of a gritty character to work on in the first place.

I look forward to seeing what you can do soon.

Cheers!

Many thanks for the info. I've got LR5 and Afinitiy photo beta. I really need to try these techniques, this is very inspirational to me and the subject matter is great. (Being a biker myself)
