Yes, but is it art?

I don't want to start the old let's go round in circles for a weekend graffiti debate all over again, but I thought I'd post this anyway.

Had a wander round the town of Limassol last week and found the back streets to be covered in graffiti. Some of it was really quite striking and this little dollop struck me as worth a shot or two.

I was drawn by the contrast between the 'art' and the peeling, fading louvre windows.

I suppose whether it's considered art or vandalism would have to be as with plants, "a weed is simply a flower growing in the wrong place!", so pity they did not "plant it" in somewhere more acceptable where it would be appreciated rather than despised.

i see it as a form art, some of the work those guys do is brilliant in my eyes.......but does it not depend on where they do this and if they had proper permission. if anything like this was daubed over my house i doubt i would see it as art.........! that stuff along the bottom is pure graffiti....

love the face, as you say the bright colours works well as a contrast with the window shutters, not surea bout the tagging on the bottom ledge, im not sure it adds anything to the image and actually distracts me slightly.. would possibly have taken that out?

Whether its illegal art or legal art or good art or bad art it is still art

Unfortunatly until art is defined everything is art

The Encyclopædia Britannica Online defines art as "the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others".

So thats narrowed it down to anything in the universe and beyond

the more pertinant question Is, "is this art you like" If the majority agree it is well liked art, if not its bad art The mob rules

Unless the minority are rich then its well liked art that costs a lot to own good or bad
