Beautiful John. Not seen one this year yet

Terry... it's hard to image how these butterflies come all the way from North Africa and arrive in this condition. I suppose they could be newly emerged but that would mean that eggs were laid some weeks ago and these are the first Painted Ladies I've seen this year... so I'm a bit confused. I must read up on them.

Has anyone else seen any Painted Ladies this summer? I haven't forgotten the summer of 2009 when there were thousands here, I understand that there are no butterflies in Iceland... only visitors and Painted Ladies have been even recorded there... that's some journey.

havent seen hardly any butterflies this year at all :(  normally my garden and the common i walk on are full of them too.

these are lovely shots of a painted lady though

The little Panasonic never ceases to amaze me, it's getting on in years now. I remember receiving an email from 7DAYSHOP in the Channel Islands from who I had bought several item previously. I checked my email when I got up one morning and 7DAYSHOP were advertising the camera at £160 or there abouts, I was about to leave home to deliver samples to M&S head office in London and I ordered it on impulse just before walking out of the door... I've never regretted it, it goes most places with me in my pocket.
