Help To Identify

Recommended Posts

Im not great on wildlife identification however Im learning. I was out today and found a butterfly I have never seen before. Not done my photo download yet however, from looking online, I understand it may be one of 2 species. I was wondering if anyone can help. I have looked online and have eliminated the Holly Blue but it may be a Common Blue or a  Silver Studded Blue. Im hoping the latter, as they are belived to be extinct here in the NE of England.

Can anyone describe the differences? I 'hand held' for my shots so most are blurred but I have a couple I can post, once processed. If it's a Silver Studded Blue, I need to report it somewhere but no idea who to.

It's difficult to describe the differences, I need to see the butterfly.  Here are a couple of links to Common Blues that I took last summer, it may help.

Had a look at the information you have both provided and I really cant tell the difference between the common blue and the silver studded blue. My own images arent very good but will post them here shortly. Then see if you guys can decide! Im gonna see blue butterflies in my sleep! haha. I really hope its the studded, as they arent supposed to be in NE Engand.
