Bench with a view.

Taken last evening when walking on the Malvern Hills. Last time I sat on this bench the top was all split and rough, I'm please to see that Malvern Hills Conservators have been busy replacing quite a number of bench tops, at least our car parking fees are being put to good use... in all fairness the conservators do a splendid job of looking after the hills.

i could sit there for hours :)

I sat there for about half an hour, it was so cool and lovely... so much nicer than the 82 degrees in my flat, I actually spend quite a bit of time roaming about up there, not always in the same area though.

Have they closed the loophole whereby you could park free in Malvern itself and access the hills at a point below St Anne's Well?

I'm not sure Chris... I'm not aware of any free parking in Malvern these days. There is only one parking area for the hills that is free as far as I know and that is at Hollybush, it's off the Ledbury to Tewkesbury road, it's part of Eastnor Castle Estate and is not managed by Malvern Hills Conservators. I use that park when I go to Midsummer Hill and Ragged Stone Hill. Eastnor Castle Estate allows the public to walk around the deer park and lakes free, this is nice in this day and age. I know James Hervey-Bathurst who is the owner of Eastnor Castle, when I ran my little courier business he was one of my customers, he's a nice chap... not stuck up at all.. if I bump into him when in the deer park he always finds time for a chat. I remember one January I went to Willingale Tubes Ltd in Sudbury, Suffolk to collect over 100 boiler tubes for his three traction engines, the late Fred Dibnah was a friend of his and was staying at the castle when restoring these three monsters. I got caught in a very bad blizzard coming back and was lucky not to have to take refuge somewhere. He over paid me and gave me a crate of beer.
