1940's shoot

Recommended Posts

I done my first shoot with a stranger yesterday, she is a friend of a fried but we had never met before the shoot so I was a little nervous. She is a 40's singer so we went along the 40's theme and here's what we got (a bit pic heavy)

All beautifully done and well up to your usual high standard Paul.

I take many shots of strangers as you know, nervousness is natural, and, it can play havoc with your photography thinking though, so asking a stranger to move or to pose diferently can be inhibiting for both parties.

My trick, is keep chatting, to relax them as I attempt, very quickly to get the best angle of background......yesterday, I had a fun minute attempting to get a tattoo covered builder's labourer to look natural for my camera.....not easy or comfortable.

A plainer background to the first pic would be better, your clever processing should be able to sort that out......try lightening it, then using the Goussian Blur on layers.

Love the mono, and the shot against the tree........if you do more 1940s stuff could I suggest that you study the photography of the period?

It was predominately black and white because of wartime restrictions and shortages, with the rare technicolour like magazine covers and film posters........ Sadly Im old enough to have seen it all for real ;-)

More please.

Thank you, and you've given me some great tips. I did troll through Google but I didn't find much in the way of 40's photo shoots so I may have to rely on the trusty library next time for some more inspiration :)

Google 1940's magazines Paul......................or 1940's film stars......that should do it:
