Great photographs Fuzzy.......but the content wrankles with me ( a real Wartime brat) ......many of these events are letting their eye off the ball, they are changing into Stem-Punk/Goth like dressing up parties.

That is not to decry, the wonderful groups who are sticklers for authenticity.

No woman would have her hair like that, nor dyed red, working mums like mine with four kids and a hubby fighting wouldnt have time, nor the dye.

Nor would Working women, for the same reasons, they worked very long shifts many in Blitz conditions, those in the forces wouldnt be allowed.

The dog with goggles? ??

True Fuji but if you see the prices that are charged for original / lookalkie clothing you will appreciate the attempts to join in the FUN of the event without laying out a massive amount of money

The soft toy with goggles was just a FUN item in a vintage car

And that is what all these events are about FUN

Thankfully we have moved on from ricketts, no NHS, rationing, etc but the atmosphere of these events is probably the same, good clean FUN

I wasnt trying to knock the fun element Fuzzy, I apologise if you thought I was.............I appreciate that this was probably a 1940s themed event, not a serious re-enactment.....

.....................But the reality remains......the 1940 weren't fun, for anyone, any apparent fun time was usually a cover to hide real feelings, bereavment,  or fear.

The fear of the war being lost or of losing relatives and friends was very real at the time, and the knowledge of what the nazis were capable of was never hidden from us, as young as we were.

I witnessed part of the Armada of planes, some  towing three gliders going out..............thousands of American troops were stationed at Stoneleigh Abbey a couple of miles away...many would never see home again. In Leamington there is a memorial to those Czech heroes who were parachuted into Prague to murder hitler, they were all killed.......  I was seven and a half in 1945 on VE day memories remain extremely strong.

It is very difficult to explain to someone who didn't experience it, and very difficult for modern generations to fully understand............I still meet up regularly with Sheila, a once four year old who was evacuuated to our house, and went to school with me in 1941 after their house and neighbourhood  was destroyed by nazi bombs  in Coventry.

Don't recall Rickets, but I did catch Empitgo and had to be painted purple all over.....in front of GIRLS :-(
