Hi, Rick,

Your pic has an almost timeless appeal, making it difficult to tell whether it was taken last week or sixty years ago, the sepia and vignette help that impression.

It features the very essence of mono photography......it took me a few years after taking up photography to begin to appreciate it again.......like many now, I just couldn't understand why anyone would want to return to pre-war and just post-war black and white, when all that lovely colour was available, especially after the ease of Digital Photography.

It was only, when a few mono enthusiasts on TIPF encouraged me to shoot in RAW that I also began to study mono processing through Contrast Grading ( see my recent ..." Cruisin!" ....post.

More please.

Thanks, Fuji, for the comments.

For years and years, I made a living as a photographer- first as a photojournalist and then as an architectural photographer.  For the most part, I shot color for my work.  But, my personal stuff has always been shot using B&W.  That started when I first picked up a camera in the mid-1960's and continues to this day.  I don't even think in color at all anymore.

The cheap Holga lens is a really fun tool to use.  However, I use it only sparingly and only for certain photos that I think will be enhanced by it's use.  In this particular shot, it was late in the evening as the sun was close to setting, so I set the ISO to 1600 knowing that with this particular camera, it would add quite a bit of noise to the shot.  The vignetting and soft focus is inherent in the Holga lens so the only thing that I really did in PP was to add the sepia tone to give the image a really vintage look.  I don't do much of this type of photography.  I am usually just a straight-ahead B&W shooter, but every now and then I come across a scene that works really well for this type of process.
