Very interesting set of pictures Jim. Couple of questions:

1. Did you shoot in B&W or convert from colour?

2. Judging from some of the angles, you must have been holding your camera in a non-obvious way - how, exactly?

I've often wanted to do something like this, but just haven't the nerve to shoot photographs of complete strangers. Fuji has the knack, but he asks them, something I just haven't plucked up the courage to do yet.

Noo!

Chris, I only request portraits for my ......Portraits Project......all of my other Street Photography is just that........being part of the scene without being noticed then just snapping away. I do use many techniques, including shooting from the hip, or from chest height as my camera hangs on its strap.

My new camera has more choices by having a tiltable LCD and EVF these can be angled so it looks as if I am adjusting my camera and not making eye contact.

See my recent......TRIO.......and.......Finger a Plucking Fun......posts......for real Street Photography...

Love the slide show by the way.......just my kind if thing.

Hello Chris,

I used a B&W setting, a no viewfinder P&S camera under my chin, left hand holding it, right index finger on the shutter release, F4, 28mm, manual zone focussing set at 1mtr +. Few people notice, those that do get an explanation. And I get close 1 to 2mtrs.

Hello Fuji,

I soon found that I could not do it half heartedly, I missed more than I got, I like unposed, I like to be amongst the people I photograph, close up, engaged, the heightened awareness enabling me to press the shutter instantly, without any (apparent) thought. It then becomes photography at what must be another part of brain activity as I realised that the 'best' shots were the instantaneous ones. Sounds a bit psychobabbly but I suspect every other street photographer has experienced this.

And after doing it for awhile the project ideas kicked in and two bodies of work emerged. Until I found SlideShare there was no place to put a properly sequenced series of images with a narrative text.

Will I continue doing it, well maybe if something else occurs for a street project. I'm still pursuing my interest in montages and very recently the figure in the landscape, where the figure becomes part of the landscape and not its subject.

And thanks for the nice comment, good of you.

Cheers - Jim
