MALLARD MAGIC...before and after...

Recommended Posts

To enable you all to see my starting point for a photogaph like my previous ...Water Colour.....Post, here is another from the same series, all taken within minutes of each other yesterday afternoon.

As I explained, the light on the water and the reflections at that particular point can be breathtakingly beautiful, to the point of being unbelievable, all caused by the combined factors explained in my previous post:

Here, the same Mallard Duck has managed to lose herself in the centre of a truly magical place......paint it like this and folks would think you were making it up.......No!....it really is like that.

Another photographer friend happened by wih friends and an infant.......she just couldnt understand why I wanted so many shots of boring old ducks......but....when I explained, then showed her, she was as enthralled as I was and began to shoot away.

You will see that I have reduced noise, boosted the wole tonal range, added a tiny touch of saturation here and there, then given the bottom third a sharpen to increase edge perception and texture.

The tones were boosted using Curves, I'm guessing?

Hi, Chris,

When selectively processing on Layers, I can use, Curves, Levels, or Exposure........I may even explore the Brightness/Contrast sliders.......very rarely I might just press on the Saturation pedal.......( but not here) .

This is the Joy of working with RAW image, all those tones, colours and textures are there for the taking.........I love my......Digital Darkroom.

As you can see, the original, is rather dull and very noisy because of the high ISO levels I had set, to capture the gulls in flight.
