I cant believe that I did this............all hand-held through my TAMRON 70-300 lens:

 

The Gibbous? Moon was showing  brightly in the deep blue sky on Sunday afternoon...................I shot three frames, using the lens fully extended, not really expecting much.

 

On looking at the three separate frames just now, I realised that they were all very passable.....so I carried out an experiment:

 

I merged all three into a single shot, using the magic that is CS6....IT WORKED!!!

 

It merged the moon giving me a wierdly shaped blue BG...I cropped that untio I got what you see here:

 

I post ine of the original shotes, then the merged version....................the lens stabilisation on the sONY A55 is truly remarkable:
