BEANIE and KICKERS

After talking photography for two hours with my new pro photographer mate yesterday, I thought I would try some of his deas out........the main one being to always shoot in...Aperture Priority Mode.....I usually shoot in Manual Mode.

Aperture Mode seems to have worked here, it has been a dull miserable day, but I found these two cheerful shopfitters having a smoke break outside the door; they brightened the gloom.

How did I persuade them to be photographed close up?

I did what one of the YouTube (B&H) Tutors suggested ....looked down at my camera then up to them for a nod of approval......HEY! it works! :yes

Not candids because they just grinned in response to my request....both procesed in my usual way:

In response to Leon's post regarding....Straight-Out-of-Camera pics.......it wouldnt have worked with my RAW originals here:

Lovely shots Fuji, I always worry about "pros" that say to always use one setting be it manual, aperture etc etc we all know that no one setting on a camera is the best for everything, its only best for a certain type of picture, if thats the only type you take then you always use that setting :)

He tells me that, as a pro wedding photographer, it tended to get best results most of the time.......I know what you mean......but he just doesn't seem to get it......... as you say........use the controls on the camera.....discover what they all do.....then....Go take pics.

I love both those portraits Fuji.

Personally, I see absolutely no reason to prefer Manual to Aperture Priority, especially as the latter is what - probably a majority? - of serious photographers have tended to use since the 1970s. After all, being able to vary the given EV + or - by 2 or 3 stops is virtually as good as manual operation, and why go through the pain of setting the shutter speed as well as aperture when you don't need to? It's nice to know what the camera is going to set of course, in case it's too slow to hand-hold, but the camera will tell you that anyway.
