I took about a dozen shots of this scene and no matter what I did I just couldn't get the shot I wanted, talk about difficult lighting... so much contrast. I chose the best of the twelve and I've had a bit of a twiddle and I'm still not totally happy, the strange thing is I've photographed this scene several times over the years and I've never come away with a shot I'm really happy with. Having been to the island six times now I doubt I'll go again so that's it then.

Just a crop - what do you think? (Simplified the lines and removed distracting foreground detail that would make part of a separate composition IMO)

The alternative, in my view, would be to make it portrait format with lots more sky, and the eye being led along the valley to the horizon. But you would have to stitch in a sky to make it work.

Is that dry greenery, and not the soggy wet stuff that we have here at the moment?

Tina... La Palma gets more rain than the other Canary Islands being the furthest west and it was early December when I took the shot which is the wettest month. It can get dry in the summer and there are often wild fires, I did post some shots of the trees bouncing back after being nearly incinerated. The fires never seem to kill off the pine trees.

I guess I always think of places like that being dry all the time. It's lovely and green.

Some people call La Palma the green Canary Island... that's why I've been there six times.. plus there aren't many tourists unlike Tenerife etc.
