For the first time this year the sun was out when I took the dog down the beach.

I could have taken the D300s, I could have taken the K30 or I could have used the iPhone....but....I decided to challenge myself and dug out a rather old but still very, very cool Coolpix.

To be exact a Nikon Coolpix 950

Launched in 1999

2 Million Pixels

3x Optical Zoom

80, 100, 160 ISO

From memory I think they launched for about £1000 which sounds a lot even today - it was Mag-Alloy, it did have an articulated lens (with a filter thread) and it does look as cool as - insert your own expletive!

Still working today thought the backlight on the screen is on its last legs and its not what you would call responsive. There is no indication as to where it is focusing, or that it has focused at all and it uses CF so I had to rummage about for my card reader.

Had fun and it challenged the old grey cells trying to get a few shots I liked.

Jasper - about as good as I can get using LR5:

Bit of Mono:

Bit of a play:

I was going to convert it to mono so ran it through Nik SEP with a strong red filter (thats a blue sky in the background but when I got it back into Photoshop I wasn't sure and started to fiddle with the layer opacity.

Set at 85% with one of the blending options (cant remember which) it looked great so just flattened the shot and posted it.
