I have a freebie that works, but only with JPEGS...........Recently though I have discovered that CS3 has an HDR mode tucked away that happily works with RAW and DNG files.

TOPAZ LABS FILTERS can also help to produce very effective HDR results......

.......All three used by me very sparingly because it is all too easy to overcooked things..

The Photoshop hdr does the job but does not let you do much 'imput', pretty much what you see is what you get ( or was on earlier editions of CS)

I find Photomatix Pro and Luminance HDR very adaptable with various settings and styles and will let you adjust the light smoothing aspect (should you wish too).
