FUJI - how it was done

Recommended Posts

as requested by Fuji,

the close encounter image is one of those that i thought wasn't what i wanted, but as i said before in an older post i go back to images and have a think as to what i can use the 'not so good ones' for, this was one of those times.

it is part of the ball drops sessions and a follow up from the 'final frontier' image.

i used a light coloured small ball, dropped into a shallow glass dish.

under the dish is a black cloth, and lighted from under that using a flexible

20w desk lamp, of course you have to have a glass/clear plastic shelf type to place everything on and for the light to shine through.

using the desk lamp give the images an orange tint due to the warm colour effect. shining through the black cloth (any colour can be used to give a different effect) gave it the blueish colour and the orange tint added to it.

with the final image i then in software, rotated it 100 deg, used a soft round brush around 100pix (adjusted when using) and used black clour painted around the main image, when done i used a small hard brush and with white/orange/blue added the dots for the stars, different sizes of dots give the impression of distance, and if one or two are slightly smudged/lined then motion is added.

you can also adjust levels/contrast/add tints if needed to create an image you like.

i could have put it in the digital section but as it was only slightly altered in software i didn't bother.

geoff

iv'e added 2 images, the original (the bottom one) and the second half way done.

Thank you!

I really appreciate the time an effort you have put in to explaining your methods here.........The end results are truly fascinating, they appeal to my creative psyche greatly.

I must have a go during dark winter evenings.

CHEERS!
