Very nice indeed - I just love the red hair.

 

I wish I could fathom how to make selections with such accuracy - mine always look like they've been done with a knife and fork!

Me too, Korky. I have never really mastered   it so that I can produce a really good edit like this.

Thanks all, I do however have to confess that this really isn't that good :( If you look at the edge of her hair, there is a general blurring there which sort of disguises the fact that the selection isn't good. That's also why I posted a request for anyone with better selection knowledge with regards to hair to step forwards with an easy solution.

 

The edge blur, or softness, also fits with the gentle skin soften I applied so it doesn't look too out of place.

 

This is the original I worked from so you can see the problem with the background, taken from the original raw file and cropped/resized to match the edited one, but with no work done to it.

That's one of the more straightforward  hair styles to select (I'd use the magnetic lasso personally) with its carefully coiffed edges and very few 'flyaway' strands. I think you did a good job.
