was it a common blue?

It's rather tatty and very near the end of it's fluttering days, that's for sure.

 

As for species, that's difficult. It could be a common blue, I've seen a couple of pictures of old specimens where the blue wings have faded to a brownish colour but those lost all markings where this still has some.

The furry blue body and the stripey antennae would fit with a common blue...

 

hmm  Not sure  :wacko:   How big was it?

It could be a female Common Blue, there are still signs of the markings on the wings that the male doesn't have. Regarding size, an inch to an inch and a quarter seems too large for a Common Blue... funny Bugs, Annie and I were only talking about that yesterday. Common Blues are very small, not much bigger than my thumbnail with the wings closed.
