So nice to see a still life category - a great idea, Fooj.

This image was created about two years ago and all the items have family connections. Originally done in CS4, it's had a few last minute tweaks in Snapseed.

BTW, the photographs are of my paternal grandparents, the clogs were used for dancing a style of Morris peculiar to north-west England and the shell was picked up by my grandfather in France during WW1.

So now you know.

I'm guessing that the items in the picture were from separate sources and have been edited into this picture. I may be wrong, but I feel it works very well. There is a tension in the image caused by perspectives and scale that reflect a life of hardship and suffering, but balanced beautifully by friendship and joy!

Martyn - Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. The image was shot as a still life with all the items arranged on a table and lit from a single window with a reflector to throw some light back into the shadows.

The background texture and colour and all editing was then done in CS4 with much trial and error to get the final result - the image isn't a composite, but was shot as you see it.

The clogs - they belong to someone very dear who used to dance with Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men. Me! I'm now far too old and far too sensible.
