A couple of great shots, John and the first one I particularly like for the contrast :)

 

 

Tell you what though, I'm wondering if this is a large skipper? Those wing markings are very strong, more so than I'd expect to see on the small skipper.

If it is, then I will be very jealous :)

Bugs... I can't make up my mind whether it's Large Skipper or a Small Skipper... so much so I originally posted it as a small and then edited to Skipper, I'm leaning towards a large but I need to do some research. Thank you for your continued interest in my macro posts.

I'd agree and I'm now officially jealous as I've never seen one! Well found

 

Well I reckon I saw quite a few last Monday, if the weather is sunny next week I'm going back to Haugh Woods. I've been told it's the best place in Herefordshire for butterflies and going on what I saw I'd say it's the best place for insects I've been to... full stop.
