No need for a light in bright sunshine.......just choose your angle to make best of available light, then concentrate on focussing..........please see my recent effort to see what I mean.......I open the lens wide.....use a high shutter speed and ISO to suit.

You can use the ...On-Camera Flash to freeze motion....f16...s160...press the shutter as soon as focus is confirmed..a diffuser is easily made from kitchen towel and masking tape....dont get the sticky on the lens or working parts though:

Oh Yes!......Use the Macro setting on your particular camera unless using a dedicated macro lens:

Not easy sibjects flies?

Thank you for that Fuzzy.......I have been experimenting with the settings you suggest..... My LX5 doesn't do a 22, it only goes down to a18.......It will be interesting to see the results.

S 160 is ideal for syncing with the flash to freeze motion, but opening up allows the same without flash.....you pays yer money and takes yer choice....as they say.
