Brown Hawker dragonfly

Just in case you wanted a closer look at a brown hawker, here's one I prepared earlier :)

ok ok it was a few years ago when this one came and landed on my hand, spent a few minutes walking around and then flew away again.

Exposure on the skin is terrible, but I hope you'll forgive that.

All taken one handed (obvioiusly) with a Canon 50mm lens and I think a 12mm extension tube on a Canon EOS 300D.

wow!!

do extension tubes work that well???

They have just one purpose. They reduce the minimum focussing distance, so you can get closer to your subject and use more of the frame. I had one fitted because I was spider hunting at the time and wanted to get closer than the 12inch mfd of the 50mm

I'm sure you attract insects... what's your secret? I've never had anything like this happen to me, I'm obviously using the wrong aftershave or something.

Leon... I use an extension tube quite often to take macros, even with a macro lens fitted. I have three Kenco tubes in sizes 12mm 20mm & 36mm. I usually use either the 12mm or the 20mm, I've never used the 36mm or stacked the tubes, I mostly just use the 12mm for hand held work.
