Having never tried macro type stuff before I was talking to a friend who takes photos of butterflies and he said he started out with a reversing ring and an old backwards lens.  So, being at a loose end this evening I''ve taped and old Canon FD 50mm lens to the dslr for a play.  I think it shows potential

Good shot you have controlled depth of field well.

 

You will probably be able to obtain a cheap lens reversal ring off EBAY. You need to know your camera bayonet type (usually just the camera make) and filter thread diameter of the lens you want to reverse.
