Beetle.

So far I have not managed an ID for this beetle.

The shape of the wing covers looks very much  like a cockchafer, but it doesn't seem to have the big antennae

I got some brilliant blue bugs yesterday, I thought I had discovered something new! turns out the are very young weevils, and turn darker as they mature. i wondered if this is something 'young'....

I thought that but I think it's too small at about half to three quarters of an inch long.

It might be a young Cockchafer, they appear in Apr/May and live for about 7 weeks so have have to grow fast.

He looks like the one that I found yesterday. I am going to have to sort my Collins book out as you have al got me interested.

It looks very similar to the cockchafer (maybug) in my I spy book

and its worth 15 points, double if you can answer the question..'what is it's other common name'

 

I have never looked at the I-spy books before, I keep them in the car to keep the grandkids quiet n journeys. fun ain't they ...
