both johnp and me believe this to be a young goldfinch, that has probably left the nest a little too soon, and that would have been my fault. I was looking for bugs when this tiny bird flew nearly into my face from the bush, it barely made it to the flint wall, which is where I left it. I do hope the parents managed to look after it on the ground and that it survived......

It looks like there are plenty of hiding places and the parents usually find them, don't worry too much annie, you weren't to know there was a nest when you were bug hunting.

No one is to know where they will settle. Hopefully the parents will feed it until it's strong enough. Fingers crossed.
