Blue Tit

Recommended Posts

A little worse for wear, the pair have managed to nest by my toilet overflow and have somehow seem to have found a way in, i think between the cavity wall. Difficult to see from ground level but if I hold a mirror out of the bathroom window I can just see it.

This was take from the bedroom window

Quite a heavy crop so a bit noisy.

Just managed to get a shot of a blue tit emerging from the hole in the wall, not very clear but give some idea of where they are nesting.I just can't get high enough and neighbours bushs in the way

I am going to put some bird boxes up before the end of summer, in the hope of them being used next year.

It's a good idea to put nest boxes up in the late summer annie!... birds need plenty of time to get used to something new and you may find birds like Blue Tits will roost in them during the winter. Where I used to live I had a nest box on the wall by my kitchen window and as it was starting to get dark I regularly used to stand by the kitchen sink and watch several Blue Tits go to bed in the box.... it must have been quite cosy on cold nights. Make sure you don't position the boxes in direct sunlight as they can become too warm for the chicks and it's best if there is something for the parent birds to land on (maybe a tree or shrub) nearby, they like to stop and make sure the coast is clear before entering the box... it also gives the fledglings somewhere to land when making their first flight. I hope I'm not telling you something you know already.
