PS LAYERS HELP REQUIRED

I need Techie help folks....I have upset my usual PS workflow and cant seem to get it back.

 

Look at the Screenshot....in the workspace on the right, you will see that I have made a Duplicate layer of the pic.

 

I have a curves level to paint on using my usual Soft Brush

 

To do this I pressed ALT and the icon with a small circle next to the EFX icon...this changes the layer as you see it to Black.

 

This is where the problem lies.................normally I begin to use the brush and as I do so, I can see the brush marks in White on that Black Layer panel:

 

All was fine until yesterday when for some stupid reason it didn't happen......I am seeing no brush strokes on the black panel nor on my pic. the brushes have NO effect:

What have I done???

 

I am usually able to work extremely quickly in FUJI auto-mode....now I am totally baffled and frustrated.........Ive tried, alterng brushes, layer properties, brush properties etc. etc....al to no avail...Im going ...NUTS!!!!!

Thanks Colin.........I agree, this poor old soul was forced to download free screenshot software, because all myWindws xP keyboard does when I press Screen-Print  key is open the Printer, or Outlook....I got there in the end.

 

I am now working as I should, the proof will be in my Pink-Poppies Post, where I am just about to include the processed version I envisaged in the first place:

Are you pressing Alt+Print-Screen together Fuji? You should be able to do a screen shot in XP:-

'Shift+Prt Sc'. The screen shot is then copied to the clipboard and can be pasted into 'Paint' for saving.

For the more civilised here use Command + Shift + 3 on your Mac keyboard to save a screen shot directly onto your desktop.

The only Mac I have BP is Gaberdine and has a belt?

Glad to be of assistance, Fuji, I do the same quite regularly so I recognised the symptoms, the screenshot helped as well
