Windows 8.

I'm so glad I didn't replace my aging XP laptop with a Windows 8 model. I'm happy with the Samsung Windows 7 laptop I bought around Christmas time.

I tried to include a link to an article I have been reading, but the link didn't work for some reason so I deleted it.

Yes I too upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 rather than 8 since I like the old front end rather than the tiles and I don't have a touch screen anyway.

I see Bill Gates is predicting people will switch away from smartphones and small tablets again to larger screens to normally view the Internet because they are too small for any serious work. If he is right we may see the larger screened I-Pads and laptops once again taking over from the smartphone for internet surfing, word processing and watching videos. The smartphone being largely relegated to calls, texting, buying goods online and checking things like the latest share prices to buy and sell on the stock exchange.

Some predict that instead of smartphones getting smaller though they will now grow larger again:-

I have always been sceptical the smartphone or tablet will ever totally replace the PC. The portable typewriter personal assistants used to use never replaced the full sized office typewriter, it was the word processor that eventually did that and the portable laptop in it's turn never replaced the office PC.

It is always nicer to work on a full sized computer with much bigger screen than a cut down version such as even a laptop, let alone a tablet and certainly not a smartphone for any serious office work. All methods of using the internet will eventually find their niche, but I think the small smartphone screen will eventually give back some of it's present users to more practical larger screened and probably more conventional keyboard devices. Even the Blackberry phone with a proper keyboard is selling well to industry still.

I wonder how fast a touch typist can type on a smartphone or tablet compared to a conventional full sized keyboard when producing a report for her boss?
