FIREWORKS FOR A TUDOR QUEEN

Many of you know that I Hale from the Historic town of Kenilworth ..... and that my very close neighbour is the famous and very evocative ruin of the once magnificent Kenilworth Castle....a building begun by the normans in 1127....then added to by all the monarchs up until it was slighted and destroyed by Cromwell’s Roundheads after the English Civil War.

Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester was in residence during the reign of Elizaberth the First.....Dudley was her favourite.....The Queen was entertained lavishly at the Castle more than once but the most famous was the lavish display during which a complicated firework display complemented the specially devised garden that has been faithfully reproduced fir visitors today.

Last night BBC 4 featured .....FIREWORKS FOR A TUDOR QUEEN....with Historian, and presenter Lucy Worsley ......a program well worth seeking out on the BBC I Player...

Besides the technical and historic/academic content our Castle and surroundings feature very strongly during the finale.....

As very close neighbours to an important historic site, we are often warned of fireworks, canon, muskets and costumed re-enactors....As Kenilworth residents are the lease holders all Council tax payers can apply for a lifetime pass for a reasonable one-off fee.....I had my first one in the 1960s before English Heritage took the Castle over from ....The Ministry Of Works.

The Castle is well worth Googling

I include here one of my own very recent views of the Castle.....I live just a minute from one of the outer moats and defensive banks....
