Seriously though, this is an all too close-up portrait of yours truly....my photographer mate called round yesterday; the one who loaned me his Pro, Gary Fong Diffuser:

 

This was taken against a powerful sunny backlight streaming through a glass door, my DIY basin diffuser was used with two layers of white tissue inside the lid...a far as I remember the camera was set to S160 F 6.

 

I have used my usual contrast grading on layers, then targeted unsharp mask to develop from RAW:

I think that the diffuser did its job well...you can see it in the eye catchlights:
