Is your feeder very close to the house? If so you could always try hanging it a little nearer to where the Goldfinches hang out. Usually they are quite hungary at this time of year as most of our Goldfinches move south in autumn to spend winter in mainland europe and a return movement begins in Feb/March and this is the time they are most likely to visit garden bird feeders looking for food after their journey north.

Now I'm enlightened too, I wasn't aware that many Goldfinches migrated as ours are here throughout the year. I'm looking at 5 on our feeders as I type this :)

Patience Annie, they are a very flighty bird but once they find your food there'll be no going back.

Phil... not all Goldfinches spend winter in mainland europe but the majority do, the same can be said of many other species too. It's nice if you have them in your garden all year round, I doubt many people are that lucky.

i have moved it higher up in the tree john, in the hope they spot it...i am gonna get another and put it in the conifer as they seem to have taken over that tree.

Best of luck annie!  I'll watch this space... :yes
