BLUE HELIX

This was taken in extremely challenging condtions using my little FUJI F 600EXR that seemed to excell itself when set on Auto.............This is the amazinly lit transparent-plastic Spiral Staircase in the very dark Jewellery Gallery of the V & A Museum.

 

We were there last Sunday killing tme beween rehearsals and performance of school choirs.....Wickedly cold temperartures plus a knife-like east wind kept usindoors for almost four hours:

 

Fortunately, the V & A allow photography on most areas, so I was happy, my good lady and daughter in law were happy in the Fashion and Theatre Costume areas and I explored the....Photography.....Jewellery and Sculpture Galleries:

 

The Jewellery Gallery is extremely dark mostly lined in matte black (velvet?) except for spot lights aimed at the incredible exhibits from all periods of history....but what caught my eye was this beautifully designed and lit Transparent-Plastic Spiral Staircase.

 

Conditions for photography were challenging not just because of the light but because of the very crowded areas, I was pleased to only have a compact camera with me.

 

Can I recommend that if you are in London and have an hour or so to kill, then the V & A has something to please everyone and the photography Gallery has original examples from most of the Greats from the history of the media:

I think you would love the jewellery in the Birmingham Museum if you haven't been there already.

Nicely lit too. I got wuite a few pics by just resting my camera on the glass.
